By Karla Jones:
I’d like to share a few updates to the program.
I’m often asked what type of wool should be used to make the square or afghan. A #4 weight worsted acrylic wool is preferred. We kindly ask that you refrain from using a cotton wool as this tends to be heavy, or anything with a metallic thread, as this makes the afghan itchy.
When dropping off the afghans or squares, kindly leave a note with your name and contact information in the event that I’m not available to receive the donation. It is important that we acknowledge your efforts either by phone, email or a thank you card. Many of you say I don’t need the Thank you and we understand that. It is however, important to Wellwood that you know how much we value you, even if by a phone call, email or card.
Always a bittersweet piece of information to share. We have reached a distribution of 29,068 afghans. This is an incredible amount of support that truly touches lives. I wish each of you could witness the enormous amount of disbelief on their face and hear the words of gratitude from the recipients, that someone (you) would selflessly take the time to make an afghan and donate it for free.
On behalf of Wellwood and the recipients, we thank you for your commitment to this program.
You do make a difference, one stitch at a time!
Warm regards,
